In this edition of Classic Beats & Fills, we’re going to take a look at a very, very cool, and probably very underrated drum introduction and primary groove. This rhythm can be found in the Alice Cooper song “Billion Dollar Babies”. This is another of those drum rhythms that is so completely recognizable, that it is virtually impossible to imagine any other drum rhythm being played!
We’ll walk through it, playing it at tempo, and also playing it very slowly breaking it down note by note, all while looking at the notational transcription I have provided. This lesson will help your reading, coordination, and understanding of the notational elements of the rhythm.
