Description
In this edition of Classic Beats & Fills, we’re going to take a look at a 1969 song from The Rolling Stones featuring drummer Charlie Watts. In many drumming circles, people correctly say that Charlie Watts didn’t set the world on fire like say a Neil Peart or a John Bonham, but in this particular song, we have a simple, but very musical and appropriate little drum intro and main groove. For all you beginners, it’s an excellent rhythm to learn and have some fun with. The song also makes a great play-a-long due to it’s simplistic nature; which is a characteristic element of the Charlie Watts style of drumming
We’ll walk through it, playing it at tempo, and also playing it very slowly breaking it down note by note, all while looking at the notational transcription I have provided. This lesson will help your reading, coordination, and understanding of some of the rudimentary notational elements of rhythm. This lesson includes the pdf lesson file download for practice and study.
