Odd time signatures, while once an anomaly, have become a staple in rock drumming. Odd time signatures are challenging, fun, and rewarding! At the same time, they remain among the most confusing of all drumming techniques.
A time signature has a top and a bottom number, such as 7/4, 11/8, and 13/16. In this class, you will work with some of the time signature possibilities with a 4 on the bottom, while using various top number possibilities. These fun beats are on the elementary side, and will definitely get you started in odd time signature drumming while setting you on the path to understanding this important, exciting, and fun element of progressive rock drumming. This class includes an introductory lecture to “odd time signatures with a 4 on the bottom”, followed by 6 lessons with rhythms in 5/4, 7/4, 9/4, 10/4, 11/4 and 13/4.
